چکیده

We study the motion of C₆₀ fullerene molecules and short-length carbon nanotubes on graphene nanoribbons. We reveal that the character of the motion of C₆₀ depends on temperature: for T < 150 K the main type of motion is sliding along the surface, but for higher temperatures the sliding is replaced by rocking and rolling. Modeling of the buckyball with an included metal ion demonstrates that this molecular complex undergoes a rolling motion along the nanoribbon with the constant velocity under the action of a constant electric field. The similar effect is observed in the presence of the heat gradient applied to the nanoribbon, but mobility of carbon structures in this case depends largely on their size and symmetry, such that larger and more asymmetric structures demonstrate much lower mobility. Our results suggest that both electorphoresis and thermophoresis can be employed to control the motion of carbon molecules and fullerenes.

Spin-polarized transport through a zigzag-edge graphene flake embedded between two armchair nanoribbons electrodes

We study the coherent spin-polarized transport through a zigzag-edge graphene flake (ZGF), using Hubbard model in the nearest neighbor approximation within the framework of the Green function’s technique and Landauer formalism. The system considered consists of electrode/ (ZGF)/electrode, in which the electrodes are chosen to be armchair nanoribbons. The study was performed for two types of ele...

Spin-dependent transport through interacting graphene armchair nanoribbons

We investigate spin effects in transport across fully interacting, finite size graphene armchair nanoribbons (ACNs) contacted to collinearly spin-polarized leads. In such systems, the presence of short ranged Coulomb interaction between bulk states and states localized at the ribbon ends leads to novel spin-dependent phenomena. Specifically, the total spin of the low energy many-body states is ...

Disorder-induced gap behavior in graphene nanoribbons

We study the transport properties of graphene nanoribbons of standardized 30 nm width and varying lengths. We find that the extent of the gap observed in transport as a function of Fermi energy in these ribbons the “transport gap” does not have a strong dependence on ribbon length, while the extent of the gap as a function of source-drain voltage the “source-drain gap” increases with increasing...
